Job Summary

Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking enthusiastic, customer-focused student baristas to work on weekends for our clients busy café in Cape Town. This is an excellent opportunity for students who are passionate about coffee culture, customer service, and working in a fast-paced environment. You will be the face of the café, crafting high-quality beverages while providing a warm and welcoming experience to every guest.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve a variety of coffee and espresso-based drinks according to company standards

  • Take and process customer orders with accuracy and a positive attitude

  • Maintain cleanliness of the barista station, service area, and seating zones

  • Restock inventory including cups, lids, and condiments as needed

  • Handle cash and card transactions using POS systems

  • Educate customers on menu offerings and recommend items when appropriate

  • Follow all food safety and hygiene standards

  • Assist with opening or closing duties as scheduled

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a university or college (student status preferred)

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

  • Customer-service oriented with a friendly and approachable demeanor

  • Good organizational and multitasking skills

  • Reliable, punctual, and responsible

Experience

  • Prior barista or food service experience is an advantage but not mandatory

  • On-the-job training will be provided for selected candidates

Working Hours

  • Saturday & Sunday: Between 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Flexible shift scheduling)

  • Shift options available: Morning (7 AM–12 PM) or Afternoon (12 PM–5 PM)

  • Ideal for students seeking part-time weekend employment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of espresso machines and coffee brewing methods is a plus

  • Ability to handle basic math for transactions and inventory counting

  • Strong attention to detail, especially in order accuracy and cleanliness

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain a positive attitude
