Job Summary

The Elite Job is seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Lost & Found Desk Executive to join our airport operations team at Durban Airport. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in reuniting passengers with their lost belongings by handling inquiries, maintaining accurate records, and delivering exceptional customer service. This position demands a high level of organization, discretion, and interpersonal skills, as it directly impacts passenger experience and brand reputation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Lost & Found desk at Durban Airport, responding to passenger queries in person, via phone, and email.

  • Log all lost and found items accurately using the companys tracking system.

  • Maintain detailed records of item descriptions, locations, and handover details.

  • Coordinate with airport security, airline personnel, and cleaning staff to trace lost items.

  • Return found items to rightful owners following established identification and verification procedures.

  • Ensure proper storage, labeling, and safety of found items.

  • Generate regular reports on lost and found activities.

  • Uphold company policies and airport regulations at all times.

  • Provide empathetic and professional service to distressed or frustrated passengers.

  • Escalate sensitive or complex matters to supervisors promptly.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Matric certificate or equivalent (National Senior Certificate).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Customer service orientation with problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.

  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1-2 years experience in a customer service, hospitality, or administrative role.

  • Experience in an airport, travel, or logistics environment is an added advantage.

  • Prior work in a lost & found department or similar setting will be highly regarded.

Working Hours

  • Rotational shifts, including weekends, public holidays, and early morning or late evening hours.

  • 8-hour shifts with scheduled breaks, depending on airport traffic flow and operational needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of airport security protocols and procedures (training will be provided).

  • Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a respectful and courteous demeanor.

  • Good judgment and decision-making capabilities.

  • Familiarity with basic reporting and data management systems.
