<strong>About Rune<br><br></strong>Rune Technologies builds mission-critical software for military logistics and sustainment. Our flagship product is TyrOS, an AI-enabled logistics command and control platform that gives commanders a single, real-time operating picture of their sustainment fight, from inventory and distribution to medical and operational planning, even in degraded and contested environments.<br><br>We're not a traditional defense contractor. We're a small, fast-moving team that combines deep operational experience in and with the DoD with the software discipline of the best product companies, and we apply that combination to a customer set that desperately needs it. We stay close to our users by embedding directly with military units during exercises and rotations, and we ship constantly based on what we learn.<br><br>The U.S. military and its allies face a real logistics modernization problem. We're building the software to solve it.<br><br><strong>About The Role<br><br></strong>At Rune Technologies, we are building the logistics technology backbone that the U.S. and allied militaries need to dominate in large-scale combat operations. As a Front End Software Engineer at Rune, you will be part of a high-impact team working at the intersection of modern web engineering, operational logistics software, and mission-critical user experiences -- all in support of the warfighter at the tactical edge.<br><br>You'll join us in our mission to bring 21st-century software to the sustainment domain -- modernizing inventory management, transportation optimization, and predictive maintenance through intuitive, high-performance applications. You'll work closely with product designers, backend engineers, and operational experts to build software that transforms complex logistics workflows into powerful and accessible user experiences.<br><br>This is a front-end engineering role first and foremost. We're looking for someone who has dedicated their career to building sophisticated web applications, possesses deep expertise in React or Angular, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript, and takes pride in owning front-end architecture and technical direction. The ideal candidate is a builder who has created significant products from the ground up, thrives in fast-moving environments, and cares deeply about delivering software that performs reliably in real-world operational settings.<br><br><strong>What You'll Do<br><br></strong><ul><li>Design, build, and maintain complex, production-grade front-end applications using React (preferred) or Angular, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript. </li><li>Own front-end architecture decisions, establishing scalable patterns, frameworks, and engineering best practices that support long-term product growth. </li><li>Develop intuitive user experiences that enable operators to rapidly understand and act on complex logistics and operational data. </li><li>Collaborate closely with product designers, backend engineers, and military subject matter experts to translate mission requirements into high-quality software. </li><li>Build data-intensive interfaces, visualizations, and real-time user experiences that surface critical operational insights. </li><li>Integrate with APIs, WebSocket-based services, and distributed backend systems to deliver responsive, high-performance applications. </li><li>Contribute to code reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering standards that raise the quality and maintainability of the platform. </li><li>Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks, usability issues, and production incidents to ensure reliability in demanding operational environments. </li><li>Help shape the future of Rune's front-end platform by identifying opportunities for technical innovation, improved developer experience, and enhanced user impact. <br><br></li></ul><strong>Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>Expert in React (preferred) or Angular — one must be primary, not both at a surface level</li><li>TypeScript and JavaScript as primary languages; strong command of HTML</li><li>4+ years of experience with 75%+ in pure front end roles</li><li>Has built significant, non-trivial front-end products — not just maintained existing codebases</li><li>Can own front end architecture decisions, not just implement tickets<br><br></li></ul><strong>Desired Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>Portfolio demonstrating independent, significant front-end work (common for strong FEEs)</li><li>Experience with data-intensive front ends and data visualization (D3.js or similar)</li><li>Experience with mapping libraries — Mapbox, MapLibre</li><li>WebSockets experience — real-time, high-throughput UI</li><li>Has worked at a startup and built something from scratch<br><br></li></ul><strong>Benefits<br><br></strong>Rune offers top-tier benefits for full-time employees to include a full suite of insurance options at no cost for employees and low-cost to spouses and dependents. Highly competitive equity grants are also included in the majority of full time offers and are considered part of Rune's total compensation package. Benefits include:<br><br><ul><li>Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans; premiums 100% covered by Rune for all employees; exceptionally low premiums for spouses and dependents</li><li>Basic life insurance and disability 100% covered for all employees by Rune; option to purchase additional life insurance available</li><li>‘Take the time off that you need, when you need it’ paid time off, not accrual based</li><li>Generous company holiday calendar including a holiday shutdown in December</li><li>Supportive leave of absence program including time off for military service, medical events, and parental leave</li><li>Full 401(k) retirement plan for all full-time eligible employees</li><li>Company-funded commuter benefits</li><li>Free access to on-site gym at office<br><br></li></ul>Compensation Range: $180K - $215K<br><br>

Common Interview Questions And Answers

1. HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR DAY?

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? Remote teams can be made up of people working on different shifts and around the world, so you won't necessarily be stuck in the 9-5 schedule if it's not for you...

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

3. WHAT IS "WORKING REMOTE" REALLY FOR YOU?

Many people want to work remotely because of the flexibility it allows. You can work anywhere and at any time of the day...

4. WHAT DO YOU NEED IN YOUR PHYSICAL WORKSPACE TO SUCCEED IN YOUR WORK?

With this question, companies are looking to see what equipment they may need to provide you with and to verify how aware you are of what remote working could mean for you physically and logistically...

5. HOW DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION?

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

Or you may receive even more specific questions, such as: What's on your calendar? Do you plan blocks of time to do certain types of work? Do you have an open calendar that everyone can see?...

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

8. HOW TO PRIORITIZE WORK?

The day I watched Marie Forleo's film separating the important from the urgent, my life changed. Not all remote jobs start fast, but most of them are...

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?

This is a great question because it shows your comfort level with technology, which is very important for a remote worker because you will be working with technology over time...
