GitLab SME (CI/CD Security Engineer)

Remote

06+ Months Contract

Overview

Roku is seeking a GitLab Subject Matter Expert to support and extend a comprehensive GitLab CI/CD component that performs security scans across ~15 languages spanning over 2,500 source code repositories, leveraging a mix of industry-standard and specialized security tooling. The team is in the middle of onboarding several thousand additional repositories, many with varied and inconsistent GitLab usage patterns. This role requires an engineer who can rapidly diagnose limitations and modify the component to resolve them — without breaking functionality for already-onboarded projects.

Given the complexity and breadth of GitLab usage across the organization, deep, current, hands-on GitLab expertise is non-negotiable. Candidates should note that technical screening will rigorously validate claimed GitLab expertise — this is not a role suited for someone looking to learn GitLab on the job.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and enhance an existing GitLab CI/CD component used for security scanning across 2,500+ repositories
  • Assess and troubleshoot varied GitLab implementation patterns across thousands of onboarding repositories
  • Diagnose limitations in the CI/CD component and determine appropriate modifications
  • Implement changes without disrupting already-onboarded projects
  • Collaborate with security and engineering teams to maintain scanning integrity across 15+ languages
  • Contribute to porting efforts extending the component to Jenkins, GitHub, and potentially TeamCity
Must-Have Skills
  • Deep, current, hands-on expertise in GitLab (not dated or superficial knowledge)
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and general CI/CD concepts
  • Ability to quickly assess and adapt to a wide spectrum of GitLab usage patterns across teams
  • Experience working with security scanning tooling integrated into CI/CD pipelines
  • Ability to modify shared/central pipeline components without breaking existing consumers
Other Skills
  • Experience with Jenkins
  • Experience with GitHub / GitHub Actions
  • Experience with TeamCity
Additional Notes
  • Technical screens are specifically designed to validate depth of GitLab knowledge (both broad/shallow and narrow/deep concepts) — candidates should only be submitted if their GitLab experience is genuine and current.
  • Emphasis on candidates who can work independently and move quickly given the scale (2,500+ repos, thousands more onboarding).
